The L1 features motion sensing hardware that allow us to capture and share unique movement insights with our users. The purpose here is to give each user a view of how they use the L1 from the perspective of:

Volume – the average amount of movement measured during session(s)

Variety – the average amount of movement variety during session(s)

Step count – the average number of steps taken during session(s)

Through this lens, we can look at movement more holistically compared to other wearables that track markers like heart rate, heart rate variability, "strain" etc.  These are all extremely valuable data bites for users and we want to bring a new set of markers into the health, wellness, and fitness ecosystem via movement capture.

In this first iteration, we are not setting arbitrary guidelines or targets for users to hit but rather specific thresholds for Volume and Variety that describe the movement.  Our first goal here is to show the user what their movement looks like to them and what level of consistency they have.  Now, there is a bit of bias as our algorithms are based off our own understanding of the data captured from the hardware and we will get better over time with updates to get clearer, more accurate, and most importantly actionable for the user.

The one thing our team has always felt about health data and why we have taken our time to release this, is the actionable side of health data feels missing.  If someone slept terribly, it isn't clear cut what they need to do to sleep better then next night as there are many factors that go into this.  That what we want to change from a movement perspective.  Movement is medicine but knowing what movements help or hinder (pain, performance, etc.) is the cure.

If we can help you see what works for you and help you stay consistent, you are going to feel better overtime.

A specific use case for this would be: what does a proper warm up prior to a round of golf look like in terms of movement data?  With the L1, you can track a dynamic warm up and see exactly your Volume, Variety, and Step Count for that warm up and use that as a bench mark.  If a score of 35 in Volume and 62 in Variety was enough for you to be prepared and ready to hit the course then you know that's your goal to hit each and every warm up.

We are excited to share this new feature with all existing and future Infraway users!  There is no cost associated with this, just a firmware update that is required to unlock this new data set.  For iOS users, who have trouble with the update please refer to this video to get a step by step walk through.  Android users have the same update, just let steps required because of iOS Bluetooth requirements.
